What if flags, representative of various countries, were not so idealistic?

Comments

I believe the flag could be overly-simplified by eliminating all of the stars, stripes, and colors; replacing all of the illusions with a large dollar sign and leaving the rest of the blank white canvas to represent the emptiness and frivolousness of the 'american dream'.
I do not have time to elaborate on this but I will throw out a couple thoughts for good measure:
Why are the concepts of government and society so polarized in a nation that proudly assumes itself to be 'democratic' (demos = the people; kratia = rule). It seems that regulatory legislation receives overt opposition in times where business is profitable, but whenever crisis occurs the 'free market' calls on government to intervene - and then complains afterwards of the ever increasing control of 'big government'. What about 'big business'? If a totally pure form of 'free market enterprise' results in a very few corporations having a monopoly on the market, how much worse could a socialist form of government be? Democratic Socialism or Aristocratic Capitalism? I personally prefer solidarity, frugality, and egalitarianism to competition, luxury, and hierarchization...
[this is good]
How do we accomplish or arrive at solidarity, frugality, and egalitarianism from where we are practically? Also in regard to egalitarianism: Is this across the board including economics and to what degree practically do we pursue it? For instance communism is a form of egalitarianism. Frugality is self explanatory I think. Solidarity, however, is a very complex social idea. Every society has a certain amount of it or it could not continue on peacefully. Does the lack of competition create lethargy and a lack of motivation or drive to accomplish, create, discover etc?

I think a balance is for sure in order... As I understand it unions emerged to defend the people against Big Business / Aristocratic Capitalism and so on. I would love to hear more from you on this. Looking forward to seeing you this Christmas.Aristocratic Capitalism
