Why do the primary conversations in our world relating to practical help for people take place in political arenas, rock star venues and science labs more than they do in the church? Ought not the church be a hotbed of creative strategy to genuinely help, heal and transform cultures. We are more apt to carry on conversations in our circles relating to what is right and wrong and how the world ought to "fall in line." I believe that we prove our ignorance of the word "morality" when we complain about the world's mis-behavior and yet lose no sleep over her (their) suffering. If we were to measure the amount of mental power, conversation, money, time and organizational resource we aim at crafting and deploying strategies to affect lives on both practical and spiritual levels we would realize we pale in comparison to other organizational bodies in the secular world that exist to do the same. I listened to this speech from Bill Clinton in regard to what they are doing in Rwanda and thought to myself here is a guy that most Evangelicals would scoff at and yet he is truly helping people and investing his time and money with a vision to see cultural transformation for the sake of future generations. We need to consider our "conversations" as the church and enter into a more profitable and productive form of work. How strategic are we? What think-tank approaches are we taking to community development? We must begin as a body to carry on conversations that are fueled by faith and love that give birth to substantial and measurable results on the local, regional and global levels.
